“Awareness is like the sun. When it shines on things, they are transformed.”
Thich Nhat Hanh
I have been passionate about holistic and alternative methods of healing and self-care for the
past five years. I was living and working in a fast-paced London, where the speed of the
commute, was matched by the hectic pace of my work and social life. I had a wake-up
moment where I realised I wasn’t happy filling my evenings/weekends with drinking and
smoking and days in front of the computer – there had to be more…
So I replaced the pub with running around London’s parks, and the contents of my
cupboards with healthier wholefood alternatives and my toiletries with toxic/paraben,
cruelty-free replacements. I started to set some health and fitness goals and explore what
I needed to be happy. I didn’t know it at the time, but I had begun what would develop into
a much deeper inner and outer journey. Between now and then I’ve run two half marathons,
completed hundreds of hours of various fitness and yoga classes, changed my diet from
sugar-rich to ketogenic, and then onto a more varied plant-based diet. But something was
still missing. I was addressing my physical health – but not yet the emotional and mental
A year later I moved to Vancouver for love and ended up working for a leading yoga brand.
I invested in fortnightly holistic self-care practices such as accupuncture and massage and
spent my free time running up and down mountains and along forest trails. I minimised
what I owned and stopped buying from fast fashion brands, I started refusing single-use
packaging and I began building daily self-care rituals.
Many elements of my life were coming together – but I felt unfulfilled without knowing
why, restless and trapped at the same time. Ultimately, my relationship went from bad to
worse and finally took a pretty drastic downturn that led to me leaving Vancouver abruptly.
I had nowhere to go but to face the emotional and mental aspects of my inner world.
Jobless and technically homeless, with everything I owned packed into 4 suitcases I went
back to live with my mum in Turkey. I set a new goal, to follow what excites me, to practice
gratitude and to learn who I was, why I was here and what my purpose was in order to find
joy and fulfilment. I began with a LOT of reading, drawing mandalas and exercising, as a way
to ease my heartbreak.
Two months later I headed to India, hurting, but also passionate and thirsty to learn about
what really leads us to live a well-balanced, happy, fulfilling and meaningful life. What our
mind has to do with it. What fear has to do with it. What creativity has to do with it. What
love has to do with it. What our surroundings and nature have to do with it.
I studied Yoga (its philosophy, anatomy and theory - completing my 200hr TTC), Mahayana
Buddhism, meditation practices, Reiki, Pranayama (breathing), Bhakti (devotional) yoga,
psycho-drama and play. I met the Dalai Lama. And I walked, A LOT – hiking for over three-
weeks up and over the three-high passes surrounding Everest Base Camp in the Himalayas
– in the midst of winter over Christmas and New Year. My journey led me on a five-month
journey around India and Nepal, solo.
What I learnt has changed me forever. It has set me on my own path committed to a daily practice to explore my inner mental and emotional landscape with the ultimate goal to accept what is, and to live with an awareness and observation of and to master my minds operations. I am attempting to lead my life from a heart-centred place. I am attempting to live in harmony with my surroundings – nature and people, creating positive ripple effects and practising reverence for all living things. My daily gratitude practice of over a year has enabled me to live IN-JOY, to levels I never knew before. I still have big ups and downs, and ongoing challenges to overcome – but my perspective has changed and I now feel I can lean back into more of a recline from the screen of my life to enjoy the show, and flow with the ride of it all. Some days I have this nailed, others I’ve got a way to go, I’m can honestly say I am truly enjoying the process and the learning.
I now want to share everything that has been beautifully transformative in my life with my same demographic. Young, bright, professional, responsible women – who are under the pressure to do it all, have it all and be it all. Have the job, the house, the husband etc. Young women who are searching for a way to stay in balance. Young women with big hearts that may have been conditioned to keep them closed. Young women living in fast-paced cities that provide little consideration for our natural rhythms and needs and disconnects us from the simple joy of being – within and connected to nature we so depend upon. Young women who find themselves beginning a journey of transition and transformation back to themselves.
I want to be able to ignite in them something life has taught me through some pretty rude awakenings. That we are not here to just survive, we are here to follow whatever it is that lights us up and opens our hearts to thrive, for the well-being of all. And that begins with enjoying and being grateful for the small things in life. A nice bath, a delicious scent, a new dress, more hugs, clean air, freshly cut grass. Those joyful times and spaces – and that’s exactly what I want to create, share, give, provide, support and facilitate. Products, services and events that bring a little more positivity, gratitude and contentment for what all we are given in this world – from each other and nature – and all the ways we are able to give back, to find joy and happiness.
I believe that if we could all just relax a bit more, relax our frazzled nervous systems, listen to our infinitely intelligent bodies, let go of our obsessive mind’s demands and be present within the world we live in – I believe we would realize how all of life is about moving from our head to our hearts. That in pursuing this we may see that the truth is love and that all experiences of joy, peace and harmony come from the recognition of that.
I am now focused on building the Beloved Company to help people to bring people back to balance, enabling them to live their best life, according to their passion with joy and happiness.
“We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned so as
to have the life that is waiting for us.”
“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
